What we have learned from pilot to national scale
REAL Fathers has been tested through a pilot evaluation, a scale-up evaluation, qualitative research, a national cluster randomized controlled trial, and adaptation studies in new settings. Each phase has informed the next.
Pilot | Northern Uganda
The original REAL Fathers pilot, implemented in post-conflict northern Uganda, assessed whether mentoring young fathers could reduce physical child punishment and intimate partner violence.
To do: add 2–3 sentences summarizing pilot findings, with years.
Key resources: Pilot fact sheet, pilot results brief, and journal article
Scale-up | Karamoja and Acholi, Uganda
REAL Fathers was then scaled up in the Karamoja and Acholi regions with quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the scale-up and the development of a program theory of change.
To do: add 2–3 sentences summarizing scale-up findings.
Key resources: Scale-up fact sheet, evaluation briefs, and Theory of Change report
National cluster randomized controlled trial | Uganda
A national cluster RCT, implemented with Save the Children and Uganda’s Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, is evaluating REAL Fathers as part of its national scale-up across six regions of Uganda.
To do: add headline results (e.g., effects on intimate partner violence and positive parenting) once cleared for public release, plus a link to the findings brief or publication.
National scale-up evaluation | Uganda
With support from the LEGO Foundation, an ongoing evaluation is examining how REAL Fathers can be sustained and delivered at scale through government systems.
To do: confirm wording and add a short description of the scale-up evaluation design and timeline.
Adaptations

REAL Fathers was adapted for the West Bengal context with partner Child in Need Institute.
